Are you an 'all rounder' teacher? Do you think that you have to be an expert in every subject, in every methodology and in every extra-curricular activity?

Why becoming a specialist in one specific area is a really beneficial thing to do:

1. It makes you the 'go-to’ person for that area: Choosing to become the person on staff who promotes eg. Guided reading, nature studies, or drama techniques, will mean that others will gravitate towards you when they need help.

2. Job Applications: It clearly shows the principal the expertise that you have in that specific area and it may be exactly what they are looking for.
